When people ask me what it’s like living with five dogs, I usually smile before answering. It’s not always easy- but it’s always worth it.

Each dog joined the family with purpose, not impulse. Penny was in a foster home and I couldn’t say no to her. She adored Kai and the feeling was mutual. Still to this day, only Penny can share King Kai’s bed. Louis charmed his way into my life, the cheeky little cocker who just seemed to bring sunshine. Nala found her place through my rescue work. Riot came to me from someone I know who knew we could give him what he needed. Everyone has their own backstory – and somehow we all fit together.

This pack didnt happen overnight. It started with Kai, my first Belgian Malinois and the dog who taught me everything. However, my childhood was growing up with Belgians. We trained together for hours every week, building trust, confidence, and respect. Now nearly 13, Kai is the wise old gentleman of the group- he still lets out that deep bark from within when he needs to remind everyone who’s boss, but he mostly watches over us like the King he is.

People say five dogs is too many. That its chaos. But in truth, its structure. Its communication. Its learning to speak without wordsand read body language like a second language. Its long walks, messy car rides, nose prints on windows and the thump of waggy tails against tent walls when we’re all camping together.

This blog is my way of sharing that life. Not a polished perfect version- but the real stuff. The training in muddy fields without distraction. The first time Riot met a cat. The way Penny’s whole body wiggles with excitement when she hits the sand. The balance between being a parent, dog handler and a lover of nature.

I believe dogs thrive with leadership, not just treats. That a pack needs direction, not domination. And that bond you build outside, in the real momentsis stronger than anythingyou can teach in class.

Thanks for joining us on this adventure. Whether you’re here for training tips, stories from the trail, or just to meet a crew of very good dogs- you’re in the right place.
